Where to Elope in Pennsylvania - State Parks Edition

If you're an outdoorsy couple or simply want to elope at a picturesque location, you might consider choosing a state park for your intimate ceremony. Pennsylvania has hundreds of state parks to choose from, each with its own breathtaking scenery. Whether you want to get married in a forest in front of a waterfall, at the top of a mountain, or by a lake with a stunning background of autumn-colored trees, there is a Pennsylvania State Park that will meet your needs. All you'll need is pre-approval from the park office, a self-uniting marriage license and a pair of walking shoes to get to the best views. There are hundreds of parks to choose from so let this list serve as a guide to some of the best Pennsylvania adventure elopement locations in the state.

Ricketts Glen State Park

Benton, Pennsylvania

If you're looking to get married in an enchanted forest, Ricketts Glen is the closest thing to it. Everywhere you turn, the lush green forest looks like an absolute dream, and it's full of beautiful cascading waterfalls. With a variety of stunning locations scattered throughout the woods, it's best to come prepared for a hike. You might even get a little dirty on the way, but that only adds to the adventure!

Presque Isle State Park

Erie, Pennsylvania

Presque Isle State Park is a peninsula on Lake Erie with beautiful sandy beaches and a stunning lighthouse. Photo opportunities and romantic ceremony locations are in abundance. You can choose to elope directly on the sandy beach or stand together on the rocks while the tides come crashing in. You'll find more privacy among the dunes or in the charming wooded trails, but you really can't go wrong when surrounded by the gorgeous ocean and trees.

McConnells Mill State Park

Portersville, Pennsylvania

McConnells Mill State Park is a beautiful forest that features a breathtaking waterfall that cascades through the lush green trees. Take photos in front of the waterfall or climb atop any of the massive rock formations while the water flows beneath you. You'll also find several secluded glens that look like something out of a fairytale. This is perfect if you're wanting a dreamy elopement surrounded by lush moss and rich colors.

Laurel Hill State Park

Somerset, Pennsylvania

This gorgeous man-made lake is only an hour outside of Pittsburg and couldn't be a more perfect location for a fall wedding. The lake is entirely surrounded by trees with leaves that change into vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges during the autumn months. Their mirrored reflection on the lake's still water creates a backdrop for your elopement and photos that looks so perfect it could be a painting. As you venture deeper into the wooded areas, you'll find opportunities for some stunning creekside photos while you're completely surrounded by colorful trees.

Clear Creek State Park

Sigel, Pennsylvania

If you're looking to elope on a romantic bridge over a picturesque waterfall or a dreamy creek, then Clear Creek State Park is the perfect location. The Clarion River runs through the state park under a number of bridges as it winds through the trees. There are over 25 miles of trails that run through the park, and one of them leads to a group of massive boulders. If you and your small party are bold enough to climb them, you'll be welcomed by a gorgeous 360 view of the surrounding area once you've reached the top.

Worlds End State Park

Forksville, Pennsylvania

Worlds End has it all, but the trails are a little more challenging. With over 20 miles of trails, the state park has the beautiful trees, waterfalls, creeks, and views you'd expect from a state park, but nothing compares to the spectacular view of the gorge from the Canyon Vista. The sights are even more impressive in the fall when the leaves have changed color, and there is actually a small outdoor chapel with some man-made log seating should you choose to invite some of your closest friends and family.

Hickory Run State Park

White Haven, Pennsylvania

This state park lies at the foot of the Pocono Mountains and is home to the 25-foot natural waterfall, Hawk Falls. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the state and is easily accessed by one of the many scenic hikes. Let the sound of the falls be the beautiful soundtrack to your vows. The park has several other beautiful photo opportunities on the many bridges and trails located throughout the forest.

Leonard Harrison State Park

Wellsboro, Pennsylvania

Leonard Harrison is located on one side of Pine Creek Gorge, which is commonly referred to as the "Pennsylvania Grand Canyon." Similar to the Grand Canyon, photos simply don't do this gorge justice. You'll simply be in awe of the spectacular views once you find the perfect location to exchange vows with the incredible human before you. The leaves in the fall will look like a fiery sea of red and orange beneath you as you look out at the canyon with your life partner.

It allows you to fully connect as you hike through the park together in search of the most beautiful sights to exchange your vows and take photos that will last a lifetime.
