Why Light Matters On Your Elopement Day

Let's talk about light! In my opinion it's one of the most important aspects of photography. It's always changing, shifting and takes a trained eye to utilize correctly. When you work with us, we take care of the tricky stuff and that includes finding the best light.

Photography is rooted in utilizing light and shadows to create an image, so make sure you hire someone who embraces even the most unique lighting situations. For example many photographers might shy away from taking portraits in the middle of the afternoon. However, it's totally possible to create gorgeous images even in mid-day sun! By us being able to create work in various lighting conditions and knowing how long we’ll have full daylight it opens your timeline up to more variety.

One aspect most couples forget about is that as the seasons change, the days start to get shorter and therefore the amount of usable light decreases. As the seasons change, sessions that would take place at 7PM in the summer now happen at 4PM in the winter.

For weddings and elopements this factor often gets overlooked when planning the events of the day.

Events to consider when planning your timeline are whether you are having a first look, what time you plan to have your ceremony, and if your portraits will take place before or after the ceremony. If your ceremony time has already been set, a first look and portraits beforehand might be necessary to ensure we have enough daylight.

That's why we go over this concept when planning your timeline. I use a super helpful app that tells me exactly what the light will be like on your wedding day. That way when we sit down to plan your timeline, we can work around the light available on your date. This ensures we can capture gorgeous naturally lit images!

Long story short, you're not a photographer. Let me take care of the confusing stuff like finding good light. That way you can experience a wedding day that is relaxed and stress free, while knowing that we are creating beautiful photographs of you+your love!
