Why You Should Take Golden Hour Photos on Your Wedding Day

Golden hour on your wedding day is a magical time when the sun casts a warm, flattering glow over everything it touches. As the day starts to wind down and the light becomes softer. The golden hues create a dreamy backdrop that enhances the emotions and atmosphere and taking photos during this time can capture the romantic energy surrounding your day. Stealing a quiet moment together, golden hour portraits will be a stunning addition to your wedding gallery. Whether you are eloping or opting for a full scale wedding, including time for golden hour portraits is always worth it. Keep reading to find out my top three reasons why I encourage all of our couples to step away and enjoy that last little bit of light on their wedding day.

BEAUTIFUL FLATTERING LIGHT

It’s no secret that golden hour light is a favorite if you’re a fan of soft, warm, glowing tones. We can photograph you just about anywhere this time of day without worrying too much about harsh shadows or direct sun (though those can also be super fun to shoot in). The light itself is flattering and soft, creating a sort of romantic feeling, perfect for a day all about love.

UNIQUE LIGHTING EQUELS MORE VARIETY

The photos taken on your wedding/elopement day will vary in lighting throughout the day. Each portion of your day can look different based on the light available. Sneaking in golden hour photos gives your overall gallery one more layer of variety to the images you receive since the light is super unique to that time of day.

ALLOWS YOU TO STEP AWAY WITH JUST EACH OTHER (THIS ONE'S FOR THE WEDDING COUPLES)

Your wedding day will fly by much faster than most couples realize. Between staying on schedule, a million people congratulating you and the various events of the day, even the most intentional, well planned day is over before you know it. Stepping away at sunset for 20 minutes gives the two of you a chance to breathe and time alone to appreciate the events of the day in that moment, together. We often finish shooting this portion of the day and then return to the reception, encouraging our couples to stay away from their party a few minutes longer, just the two of them so that they can really be present together, taking it all in.

[BONUS REASON FOR ELOPING COUPLES]

IT’S A SIMPLE YET BEAUTIFUL WAY TO END AN EPIC DAY

Watching the sunset with your partner in a secluded natural place with an awesome view can be an incredible experience to share together. What better way to end your elopement day than to view the sky’s vibrant show of colors with the person you love most? Taking a moment to just be present with one another, grateful for the path that led you to this moment in time, really, truly soaking up the incredible day you just shared with each other, I’m not sure what could be better than that.
